Ellen Solot
Ellen Atzilah Solot is a teacher and artist dedicated to gently and playfully guiding others into their bodies to cultivate deep presence, satisfaction and joy. She has been guiding private sessions and groups for 25 years. She lived in Japan for 7 years studying Shintaido and other Japanese arts. She holds a BA in Creative Arts, SFSU and an MA in Somatic Psychology, Naropa University.
"During thirteen years of training in Shintaido, Japan, I became more aware the subtleties of the inner world. I began using my body as a tool for research and expanded the practice by studying tea ceremony, meditation, shiatsu, and the Japanese language. It was through teaching Shintaido that I learned to open and connect with “the skywire” and receive and focus energy.
Upon my return, I explored this deepening body knowledge through improvisation and dance/movement and the practice of shiatsu. At that time, I began to use pastels and my sense of color revealed itself. After 5 years practicing Shiatsu I sought to deepen further into body/mind work and went to study at Naropa University and received an MA in Somatic Psychology. It was during this period, I began to paint, produced a multi-media performance piece called 7x6, and studied improvisational movement forms. In 1997 I returned to Tucson , danced, taught body-centered improvisation and helped begin a local improvisational Playback Theater group. I studied with Liz Lerman, Ruth Zapporah, and began training at The Authentic Movement Institute in Berkeley with Neala Haze.
